Bastion: Analysis

Environment

The world is not shown so we are forced to explore every corner of the map to advance the story. The animation used for the tiles appearing is also very satisfying and not distracting to the player, making the act of exploring enjoyable.

Linear story

Bastion is a simple linear game with a simple mechanics but what makes the game great is the narration and its storyline. Also, the story is narrated during the game play, and it’s not a cut scene. This make the game more important and memorable because all major discoveries and plot points were told during gameplay.

Narrations and Decisions

When your actions and choices as a player matter, you feel like you accomplished something in the game. The narration is based on what you do in the game. If you break too many barrels or if you fall off the cliff, it responds aptly. Moreover, the tiles only appear as you go through it. It all depends on your choice of explorations.
